Planetary events · Sun transits
Sun (Surya) signifies the self, vitality, the father, authority and clear purpose. Here is every Sun event of 2026 and 2027 in the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology, with exact times in IST.
All times are Indian Standard Time (IST).
The Sun changes sign about once a month, and each entry is a sankranti, the start of a solar month. Makar Sankranti in January is the best known. The Sun is the steadiest of the moving grahas, so its sankranti dates shift by at most a day from year to year.
On 1 January 2026, Sun is in Sagittarius.

Each month the Sun lights up a different house from your Moon sign and your lagna. Tradition reads that house as where attention, recognition or effort tends to gather that month. How it plays out depends on where the Sun sits in your own birth chart and the dasha you are running.

The Sun enters Capricorn (Makara) on 14 Jan 2026, 3:14 PM in 2026 and on 14 Jan 2027, 9:15 PM in 2027 (IST).
Every date and time here is worked out the way Indian panchangs give planetary events: the Lahiri ayanamsa on the sidereal zodiac, applied to the apparent position of each planet, the place it is seen in the sky. A station (the moment a planet turns vakri or margi) is timed from its apparent motion. Times are Indian Standard Time, rounded to the minute.
